Library Heads to Fair Oaks Farms in Indiana

Seats are still available for a Schaumburg Township District Library trip to Fair Oaks Farm from 7:45 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., Thursday, July 11 in Newton County, Indiana. The motorcoach will leave from and return to the central library parking lot, 130 S. Roselle Rd., Schaumburg.

Participants will witness the birth of a calf, see part of the cheese-making process and learn about how milk is produced. This family-owned dairy farm supports the traditional values of caring for the land as well as their animals. The owners engage in sustainable farming to create nutritious dairy products without wasting natural resources. A visit to the farm's cheese factory will include a stop at the ice-cream parlor and farm store, where gift items and dairy products will be available for purchase. Following the tour, participants will dine on a plated turkey lunch at the Strongbow Inn.

The fee for adults is $71 per person, while children age 14 and under pay $25 per person. Due to the length of the bus trip (just under two-hours, depending on traffic), and the tours, the trip is not recommended for children under 8-years-old, though no minimum age is required. To register, call (847) 923-3347 and pay by credit card, or sign up in person at the Information/Magazines Desk on the library's second floor.
