Beth de Kruyff, Lisle: Watching sister follow in her footsteps

My neighbor Carolene Kent attended the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in 2010, and she had nothing but positive comments on it.

I have always been a supporter of breast cancer funding, and when I was diagnosed in December 2009, finding a cure for breast cancer became even more important to me.

My sister, Pam, was diagnosed in December 2011, and with sadness in my heart, I am watching her follow in my footsteps. I would love nothing better than to be instrumental in eradicating this horrible disease.

I chose a good neighbor of mine, Lisa Constance, to head up our team. Lisa is a breast cancer survivor as well, and because I was personally involved in working in the survivor tent, I asked her to step into the spotlight as our team captain. I live in a townhouse community, and our team consists of several neighbors and several of my family members who all supported me during my treatment.

My personal goal this year is to have more people join our team. I have a large family and many friends and I want to reach out to more of them to join us, along with my co-workers.

I’ve walked in many walks in the past. This by far is the best one I have attended. Between the beautiful surroundings and the beautiful people who support the event, it is such a humbling experience.
