Spellman's Scorecard: Enough already on 'sideline' Cutler

One thing for sure heading into Sunday's Bears game in Jacksonville: There will be waaaay fewer cameras on hand for the Fox telecast then there were during ESPN's Monday nighter in Dallas.

Good news for Jay Cutler.

Good news for everyone.

Just asking:Anyone else sense a trap game here? The art of negotiating, NHL-style:Yeah, let's get together and talk about all the piddling stuff, everything except what will actually lead to a deal.Nice job.Now the first two weeks of the regular season have been canceled, and reports are that maybe the two sides will sit down again sometime next week.Honestly, why should we even care anymore?Mixed emotions:Never liked the idea of a one-game playoff series in baseball, but I'm guessing I'm going to enjoy both wild-card games Friday, and then I'm going to go back to not liking the format until it happens again next season.Yeah, you heard me.The great debate:Cabrera vs. Trout for AL MVP is fascinating, but I find the Soriano vs. Camp chatter just as intriguing.Wait, what? It's gotta be Cabrera:Doesn't it?Favorite press release:#8220;Cheez-It will be featured on the No. 43 Ford Mustang for Richard Petty Motorsports driver Michael Annett in the Nationwide race at Charlotte on Friday.#8221;Mmm, Cheez-It.Had to figure #8230;:It wasn't going to all be bouquets concerning the Ryder Cup experience at Medinah last week. This from European player Paul Lawrie: #8220;I didn't get abused, but you get comments like: #8216;Top it! Shank it! You're going to lose.' Stuff like that on every shot you play.#8221;Can you hear my tiny violin playing?BTW:Let us not mention Ryder Cup again for a while, OK?You make the call:If it's a choice of either/or, and it sounds like it just might be, who would you rather have back in the White Sox TV booth next season, Hawk or Stoney? What in the name of Jim Cantore? The Weather Channel is going to start naming big winter storms, similar to how it's currently done with hurricanes.Sweet.Even without asking:I know TWC wants my suggestions, so here are a few: Brrrrenda, Gustav, Sleeter and, last but not least, Nora'easter.I'll sit down and watch for my answers.Ending on a good note:Arlington Park's summer meet ended Sunday, and DRF reports that all-sources handle rose 6 percent from 2011.Nice.Starting on a big note:Hawthorne's 62-day fall meet kicks off Friday, but it's the Saturday card featuring the Grade 2 $500,000 Gold Cup and a pair of $100,000 stakes that will be must-see.Hooray for Hollywood:Seth MacFarlane will host the Oscars.Like it.And will like it even more if he brings along those puppets from that recent sketch he was in on SNL.Just doesn't seem right:The Cubs lose 101 games and they're talking about adding seats. The White Sox are in the playoff hunt all season and they can't fill the seats they have.Farewell and adieu:To one of the best in the business: Madeleine Doubek.Nice and Easy:#8220;I'm just at a different stage of life now. I've moved away from the parties. In my 20s, I probably would have been there 80 percent of the time. But I'm in my 40s now. I've got my life. I'm very serious about my business. I've got my family. And I've got my game.#8221;#8212; Ernie Els to Golf Digest on disembarking from the party train.mspellman@dailyherald.com
