Beat the heat, stay cool at Schaumburg Park District pools

You don't have to swim like a fish to have fun at Schaumburg Park District outdoor pools.

There is no better way to beat the recent heat than to swim at Atcher Island, Meineke Pool or Bock Pool. Since summer hours started June 4, children and adults have flocked to the pools to keep cool during open swim.

“My children love the water playground at Atcher Island,” said Kristin Mack. “The kids also really enjoy the concessions, music and slides.”

Mack brought Trevor, 4; Natalie, 7; and Brandon, 9, to Atcher Island for an afternoon of swimming and laughter.

Atcher Island, 730 S. Springinsguth Road, is a summer oasis like no other. A tropical island in the middle of the suburbs is exactly what is in store for all who visit the water park this summer. This Polynesian-inspired water park featuring water and bowl slides is the perfect summer “day-cation” for families to getaway.

The District's camps have also taken advantage of the cold refresh at the pools.

“I like swimming a lot,” said Maddy Vodicka, 10. “The pool brings friends together.”

Vodicka visited Meineke Pool in Wacky Wagon Camp. The free summer camp swam at the District's pools twice a week. In addition to swimming, children played games, interacted with new friends and engaged in a variety of activities all summer.

Located at 220 E. Weathersfield Way, Meineke Pool has the best aquatic attractions in one convenient location. Patrons can swim in the 50-meter Olympic-sized pool, go down the water or drop slides, play in the water playground and practice cannonball jumps in the diving well.

The District's other diving area is located at Bock Pool, 1223 W. Sharon Lane, and loved by many.

“I love the diving board and playing with my friends,” said Dylan Andrewnovitz, 7.

Andrewnovitz spends many afternoons soaking up the sun at Bock Pool in the District's KASPER Camp. Bock has a wading pool, a separate pool for the littlest of swimmers with a children's slide and vending machines.

And suburbanites don't have to spend a fortune to be transported to the District's tropical oases this summer.

Atcher Island daily use resident fee is $5 for youth and $7 for adults. Non-resident fee is $7 for youth and $9 for adults. The daily use resident fee at Meineke and Bock Pools is $4 for youth and $5 for adults. Non-resident fee is $5 for youth and $6 for adults. Pool pass memberships are also available for sale at Bock Neighborhood Center, Meineke Recreation Center and the Community Recreation Center, 505 N. Springinsguth Road. The memberships are now half off.

In addition to open swim, the District offers a variety of morning, evening and weekend swim lessons for all ages.

Diving lessons, snorkeling, SCUBA training, lifeguard training and water polo are offered for children and teens.

Packages are available at outdoor pools for birthday parties, rentals and group outings.
