Firefighter slightly hurt in Algonquin abandoned house fire

A firefighter of the Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District suffered minor injuries while fighting a fire in an abandoned home in Algonquin Saturday.

Crews arrived just before 8 a.m. Saturday at 370 Glenwood Court in Algonquin to find smoke coming from the eaves of the single-story home. After searching the home, firefighters found a fire in the stairwell area. The blaze was put out at 8:14 a.m., fire officials said.

During the fire, a firefighter suffered a minor nonlife-threatening injury and was transported to the hospital. He was later released.

Investigators on the scene have not yet determined the cause of the fire, which was originally reported by a neighbor who saw smoke coming from the house. A damage amount for the unoccupied house was not available.

Assisting at the scene were Huntley, East Dundee and Crystal Lake fire departments.
