Fox Lake man admits sending lewd text

A Lake County judge placed a Fox Lake man on probation for two years Wednesday for sending a lewd text message to a 12-year-old girl.

Robert Geobel, 27, will also have to complete sex offender counseling as a result of his guilty plea to felony harassment through electronic communication.

Assistant State's Attorney Reginald Matthews said Geobel, of the first block of Pleasant Court, sent the message to the Spring Grove girl on Aug. 25, inviting her to his house for sex.

The girl told her parents, Matthews said, and Geobel was arrested after they contacted the Lake County sheriff's office.

Geobel also pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice for an incident Sept. 6, 2009 when he provided Round Lake Park police with a false name during a traffic stop.

Matthews said Goebel gave the officer the name of another person to keep the officer from arresting him for driving with a suspended license.

Both crimes are felonies punishable by up to three years in prison, Matthews said.

Circuit Judge Fred Foreman also barred Geobel from using the Internet, viewing pornography or using telephone sex services while he is on probation.
