Rosemont OKs shopping area
The Rosemont village board this week as expected approved an option for a shopping center developer to acquire 12 acres in the village for a $275 million project that could bring about 150 high-end outlet stores to a site abutting the Tri-State Tollway just south of Balmoral Avenue, behind the Rosemont Theatre and the Intercontinental hotel. Rosemont Mayor Bradley Stephens has expressed hope this project will materialize, unlike a couple of earlier proposals for the area, though exactly when is unclear. Stephens has said he would like to see commitments for 50 percent of the space by the end of the year, but Jim Schlesinger, president and CEO of Talisman Companies, has cautioned that the project's future and its size will depend on the economy. He said he hopes to have a better picture in a few months of what's possible.
