For youth, teens

Munchkin art: Create paintings and pet rocks with glitter, glue and more. Playdough and shaving cream will be used as learning tools while group projects will encourage peer socialization.

Enjoy songs and finger plays that you can do at home.

This program is for children ages 2 and 3 and a participating parent. The program meets from 4 to 4:45 p.m. Wednesdays, Jan. 16 to March 5 at the Community Center. Registration costs $42 for residents and $63 for nonresidents.

Winter wonderland: Create winter crafts while watching the snow cover the ground on a blustery winter day. This program is for children ages 3 to 5 years and a participating parent. Program meets from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Cary Park District Preschool in Lions Park. Registration costs $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.

Red Cross babysitter training: This course, designed for children ages 11 to 14, will teach the information and skills necessary for safe and responsible childcare in the absence of parents or guardians.

This training will help participants develop skills in five critical areas: leadership, safety and safe play, basic care, first aid and professionalism. American Red Cross babysitters training course and basic first aid cards will be awarded upon successful completion of this course.

Class meets from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Jan. 2, no school, at the Community Center. Participants should bring a drink, snack and lunch plus $15 for the required handbook. Registration costs $40 for residents and $60 for nonresidents.

Frosty's favorites: Come in for a treat from the cold. Enjoy a flurry of winter crafts and activities that will warm you up.

This program is for children age 5 to 8 and will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 on Jan. 2, no school, at the Community Center. Registration costs $10 for residents and $15 for nonresidents.

Fun with yoga: Are you looking for a fun and healthy activity for your child?

In this introductory program kids learn how to use their bodies in a healthy way while using their imagination and having fun. Learn yoga poses to help build strength and flexibility and relaxation techniques that calm the mind.

Wear comfortable clothing. This program is for children age 5 to 14 and will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 31 at the Community Center. Registration costs $8 for residents and $12 for nonresidents.

Private tutoring: Does your child need some extra motivation and encouragement with his/her school work?

Get the individual academic attention your child needs. A patient, professional and certified teacher will work with your child to boost his/her confidence and help reach his/her full potential.

All tutoring sessions will be held at the Community Center. Half-hour and one-hour sessions are available and can be purchased individually or in blocks of five or 10. One hour sessions cost $35 and $53 for nonresidents. Half-hour sessions cost $18 for residents and $27 for nonresidents.

For adults

Become a better public speaker: Become a better public speaker in no time. You will become more confident making presentations, giving speeches and speaking in front of small groups and large audiences. Learn the do's and don'ts of public speaking, relaxation techniques and how to effectively communicate in front of a group.

This program, for those age 13 to adult, is conducted in a fun no-pressure atmosphere. The program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. on Jan. 15 at the Community Center. Registration costs $36 for residents and $54 for nonresidents.

Adult/Child CPR AED: This program designed for Those age 13 and older will focus on airway, breathing and circulation, hands-on CPR training and how to use an automatic external defibrillator in case of sudden cardiac arrest. Also discussion on heart attack, stroke and how to help a choking victim will be included.

Curriculum includes a video, hands-on training, in class discussion and certification cards.

This program will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 26 at the Community Center. Registration costs $36 for residents and $54 for nonresidents.

For seniors

The Cary Park District's Kraus Senior Center, 441 W. Main Street, offers a variety of low-cost programs, events and trips for seniors. Senior Center hours are 8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.

December events include:

Poker club: Meets from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday and Dec. 27.

Craft club: Meets from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday and Dec. 28.

Share ideas and either lead or participate in a variety of craft projects. The cost of supplies will vary.

Bingo: Meets from noon to 2:30 p.m. Friday and Dec. 28.

Canasta and pinochle clubs: This new club meets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 27.

Exercise: Meets from 10:30 to 11 a.m. Friday and Dec. 28.

Exercise to a video created especially for Kraus Senior Center. Participants work at their own pace through the video using a variety of movements. Admission is free.

Bridge club: Meets from noon to 2:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27 and 28. Also meets from 6 to 9 p.m.

Roundtable discussion group: Meets from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday.

The Kraus Senior Center, in coordination with Senior Services of McHenry County, will host a monthly discussion group. Group members are invited to give suggestions for topics. Participation is free. Sign up is required.
