Write-in bid fails in Grafton Township
A day after voters in Grafton Township headed to the polls, Dan Ziller acknowledged that running as a write-in candidate is "a pretty difficult thing."
Ziller learned that lesson Tuesday, when the four candidates who emerged from the February primary handed him a bitter loss.
While incumbents Rob LaPorta, Barbara Murphy and Betty Zirk and newcomer Gerry McMahon each garnered more than 2,000 votes, Ziller earned only 455, according to unofficial totals.
"I thought it would have been a little closer," Ziller said Wednesday.
Ziller has been a leader of the opposition to the township's plan to build new offices in Lake in the Hills. He said he plans to continue the fight at Tuesday's annual township meeting, where residents will get to weigh in on the proposed building.
"We've got one more chance," Ziller said. "If they come to the annual meeting, we can voice our opinion."
The annual meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the township offices, 10109 Vine St., Huntley.
