Schaumburg High senior's eye injured in Sunday morning fight

A 17-year-old Schaumburg High School senior is in the hospital after she was struck in the eye Sunday morning in Chicago, caught in a fight with as many as 30 participants.

Andria Sanders, who lives with her grandmother in Hanover Park, remains hospitalized Monday in good condition, Chicago police said. Sanders was hurt during a scuffle around 10 a.m. on the 100 block of West 115th Street, police said. Sanders was struck in the eye with a blunt object, and paramedics took her to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Rocks were thrown and baseball bats were brandished during the incident, police added.

Police continue to search for the reason for the fight. They have arrested three men and charged them with reckless conduct: Jerry Shannon, 17, of Barrington, no street address given; Tommy McLaurin. 34, of the 200 block of West 113th Street in Chicago; and Jacquez Shannon, 18, of the 11500 block of South LaSalle Street in Chicago, police said. They also took a 16-year-old into custody and cited him with the same charge.

Palatine-Schaumburg High School District 211 spokesman Tom Petersen said there are counselors on hand at Schaumburg High School to help any students.
