Wrap: Prospect getting its kicks
The Prospect girls soccer team is on some kind of a roll.
Fresh off capturing a tournament title in Moline on Saturday, the visiting Knights posted a 1-0 victory over Palatine on Monday in Mid-Suburban League crossover action.
The Knights (8-4-4, 3-2-4) received the only goal they would need against the Pirates in the first half when Becky Santiago scored, with an assist going to Alyssa Glennon.
Knights goalkeeper Marietta Smith recorded 7 saves.
Palatine keeper Nicky Clark was credited with 5 saves.
In the Moline championship match, Julie Schmoldt led the way as the Knights powered to a 4-0 triumph over Pleasant Valley, Iowa.
Schmoldt notched a hat trick, while Susie Lello scored the other Prospect goal and added a pair of assists.
Also earning assists were Danielle Bracci and Santiago.
The Knights won the tourney crown for the first time in five years, outscoring its opponents 12-2.
St. Viator 4, Jacobs 0: Lauren Cozzi scored a pair of goals in the first half, and host St. Viator (11-4-1) went on to beat Jacobs 4-0 in a nonconference game.
Boys volleyball
BG d. Wheeling: Behind 13 kills from Joe Ascher and 9 kills from Chris Falknor, buffalo Grove beat host Wheeling 25-21, 25-14 in Mid-Suburban League East Division action.
Setter Tom Angerame recorded 24 assists for the Bison (20-4, 7-0).
Paul Desmond had 4 kills for the Wildcats (9-13, 2-5).
Elk Grove d. Mundelein: Eric Freidenfelds led the way with 8 kills, and Garret Greaves added 6 as host Elk Grove defeated Mundelein 25-19, 25-14 in a nonconference match.
Setter Jon Condon registered 23 assists for the Grens (17-2).
Fremd d. Stevenson: Kevin Prest drilled 6 kills, and teammate Daniel Teschner added 5 as host Fremd beat Stevenson 25-23, 25-22 in a nonconference match.
Setter Benjamin Whitmer recorded 15 assists for the Vikings (16-7).
