New principal named at Des Plaines school

• Bradley J. Stein, who has been an assistant principal at Algonquin Middle School in Des Plaines since July 2006, has been named principal of Terrace Elementary School, also in Des Plaines. Stein, a Buffalo Grove resident, will assume the job in July. Before joining Des Plaines Elementary District 62, Stein taught fifth grade in a Skokie/Morton Grove school district.

• Denise Edenhofer, of Schaumburg, and president of Debut Marketing Ltd., has been named communications and marketing director for the Women's Council of Realtors Northwest Chapter.

• Former Hersey High School speech, English and creative writing teacher Michael J. Bellito has published "Waiting for a Pennant," a short story about his grandfather, in North Shore Magazine. Bellito currently teaches at Harper College and coaches individual speech events at Hersey. He is also currently writing his second novel. His first, "Ten Again," is the story of a young man's coming of age in the 1960s.

• Palatine residents Emily Hetzner and Kate Rogers will be among 30 Augustana College students traveling to Vietnam for an international learning encounter in which students take three Vietnamese culture-focused courses and participate in a service-learning project and travel. Hetzner, a senior at Augustana, is majoring in French and business management. Rogers, also a senior, is majoring in English and history.

• Mary Arvidson, emergency communications technology specialist, has retired from serving in the North Suburban Emergency Communication Center in Des Plaines. Arvidson has over 30 years of public safety service in emergency communication. A citywide reception was hosted last summer for Arvidson, who will now launch a full-time career with the United States Navy.
