Cook County briefs
Primary race definitely off:
It's now official that Schaumburg Township will not need to have a primary election on Feb. 24 to choose a Republican candidate for highway commissioner to run in the April 7 general election. John Salmassi of Roselle had submitted nominating papers to challenge incumbent Robert Fecarotta in that race. But Salmassi was removed from the ballot, following a challenge by Fecarotta, after the township's electoral board ruled Salmassi couldn't run in the GOP primary because he's voted Democratic in the last primary election. The deadline for Salmassi to appeal that decision in court has now passed. There are no other primary elections slated for Northwest suburban Cook County this election cycle.
