Cary-Grove chamber seeks pageant candidates

Candidates are being sought for the 54th annual Miss Cary and Miss Fox River Grove Business Scholarship Pageant. The event will be Saturday, May 23 at Cary-Grove High School, 2208 Three Oaks Road.

The event is coordinated by the Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce. Winners receive business scholarships from the chamber and numerous prizes donated by local business. They also participate in a host of community events and parades representing their village. Last year, 13 local young women competed in the pageant.

Applications forms are available at the chamber Web site at www.carygrovechamber.com. The deadline to register is Thursday, Feb. 5.

Young women who apply for the pageant must be between the ages of 16 to 21 and reside within either ZIP codes 60013 or 60021. They will be expected to appear at the 2009 Community Showcase on Saturday, Feb. 28 at the high school, participate in business and community events, and compete the night of the pageant on May 23.

The first official meeting of candidates will be a mandatory photo and information session at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 7 at the Fox River Grove Village Hall, 305 Illinois Street. For details, call the Chamber at (847) 639-2800.

Each Queen candidate must be sponsored by a Cary Grove Area Chamber of Commerce member. The cost to sponsor a candidate is $250. Sponsors receive significant visibility throughout the pageant process.
