Band to perform at state competition
Warren Township High School's symphonic band is one of four in the state accepted to perform today at the Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Convention. Through a competitive audition process, ensembles are chosen to perform concerts during the convention. The band will perform in front of music educators across the state in the Peoria Civic Center Theater, sharing a concert with the Marion Junior High School Band. Two special guests will join the band as well. Tom Beckwith, director emeritus of the band, will be guest conducting a piece, and David Gillingham, an internationally known composer, will join the band as they play his new Symphony No. 2 "Genesis." The performance is 8 p.m. in Peoria. Warren's Assistant Director of Bands Kurt Gros will be leading the group.
