Crystal Lake South 41, Dundee-Crown 7
After Crystal Lake South's first lost last week to Jacobs, the Gators told themselves that they need to play as a family.
"We stressed all week, actually, the kids are the one who brought it up, that we had to play as a family," Gators coach Jim Stuglis said.
The Gators were successful in their family beliefs, as five different players scored touchdowns in a 41-7 victory over Dundee-Crown in a Fox Valley Conference Valley Division game at the D-C Bowl Friday night.
"It's very big for us to get together, play together like a team because we got a big game against Cary next week, and after a loss, it's big to get together and play as a team," said Gators running back Thomas Galloway.
Galloway, who would finish with only 47 yards, filled in for injured Derek Mortensen by scoring touchdowns, on runs of 1 and 3 yards. Those two touchdowns would spark quarterback Ian Ormseth, who not only threw for 240 yards, but connected with three different Gators on touchdown passes.
"It didn't surprise me that they threw because I knew he could really throw the ball well," said Chargers coach Mike Davis. "We saw it on film, he throws real accurate."
Ormseth may have had the game of his life, by throwing for touchdown passes, of 31, 5 and 12 yards.
"We had to make a statement, we had to prove that we could play better football then we did after Jacobs," Ormseth said.
The only Gators' rushing touchdown came from Colin Masterson, who rushed for 131 yards. He scored on a 25-yard run midway through the third quarter, giving the Gators (6-1, 2-1) a 34-7 lead. Masterson would also have 79 yards receiving to go along with his 131 on the ground.
Ormseth's last touchdown throw, a 12-yard pass to Blake Randolph, capped off CL South's 41 unanswered points.
The Chargers' only score of the game, Matt Cutinello's 79-yard touchdown run gave the Chargers (1-6, 0-3) an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter.
After the TD, Cutinello only rushed 14 more yards in the game, as South's defense held D-C (1-6, 0-3).
"Defensively, we let up seven points. Four guys score. Chemistry was one of the things we talked about this week," said Ormseth.
After Dundee-Crown's early score, it became very difficult for it to get any points as Crystal Lake South controlled the clock and score early and often. After putting up 21 points in the second quarter, the Gators came out in the third looking to get a running clock, after Masterson and Ormseth led the way, and gave them a 41-7 before the end of the third quarter.
