McHenry County College to hold seminars

McHenry County College will host Barbara Bolin, Ph.D., a nationally-recognized expert in economic and skills development, who will present two separate seminars on Friday.

The morning program will spotlight assessing skills in career and technical education, while the afternoon session will focus on a systematic approach to building partnerships between education, economic and work force development. The morning session on assessing skills will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Bersted Lecture Hall, Room A240 at the college, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

This session is intended for secondary and postsecondary educators in Career and Technical Education. The seminar is aimed to increase awareness of the National Career Readiness Certificate, powered by ACT WorkKeys, and its value to both education and business.

A working lunch will be provided at noon.

In the afternoon, Bolin will present "Connectivity: A Systematic Approach to Education, Economic and Workforce Development" from 3 to 5 p.m. at the McHenry County College Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane in McHenry.

Geared for business, industry, municipality and education partners, this presentation will help participants understand economic shifts, utilize relevant resources such as WorkKeys, and build partnerships and collaboration. Bolin is president of the National Organization for Career Credentialing and is recognized as one of the most dynamic and entertaining speakers in the U.S. on a variety of topical issues.

She has extensive experience in statewide work force initiatives and career and technical education. Her model for a systematic approach to career development across agencies and funding streams is now accepted as the national norm. Bolin was also responsible for leading the Virginia Workforce Council, the state work force investment board, to a more definitive and decisive role in the work force and career development system, and has been a leader in the deployment of the WorkKeys Career Readiness Certificate.
