What's new for your nest
Freshen your decor with an antique
Even if you usually buy your antiques at flea markets, it's always good to check out upscale treasures. An easy way to do that is to visit the 49th Annual Hinsdale Antiques Show Friday through Sept. 23.
About 40 dealers from around the county will sell American and European furniture, silver, artwork, posters and Asian works. Local dealers include The Silver Vault of Woodstock.
Daily admission is $10. The hours are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 23.
The show is at The Community House, 415 W. Eighth St., Hinsdale, which provides counseling, education and recreation for residents of eight communities.
For details or tickets, visit www.hinsdaleantiquesshow.org or call (630) 323-7500.
Relax, enjoy or stomp some grapes
Wine country -- inspired by a Napa sunset or the glow of a Tuscan villa -- has influenced decor for quite a while now.
EXPO Design Center suggests copper or oil-rubbed bronze if you're replacing a sink, tub or even a shower. These metals are warmer than stainless steel and brushed nickel.
This Aquatic Serenity Copper Air Bath features massage by air bubbles and heating. It is $10,500.
Trendsetters tell how they decorate
If your home is feeling a little dowdy, pick up a September copy of Domino magazine for some fresh, young ideas.
Beth Buccini is an owner of a high-end Manhattan fashion boutique.
Her townhouse is not only stylish, but also home to her husband and three young kids.
Among her cutting-edge, but family friendly ideas:
• Buccini used 27 different wallpaper designs on the four-story staircase.
• The living room is elegant and rather traditional with pear-green stucco walls, plum taffeta curtains, a red sofa and silver club chairs.
• Two hundred framed family photos cover all four walls of the parlor, which is home to the children's toys.
