Incumbent trustees, clerk are on the right path in Addison

Four years ago, Addison trustees Sylvia Layne, Harry Theodore, Richard Veenstra were unopposed in their re-election bids. They're not getting a free pass this time. Largely concerned about village spending, challengers Marcia Montesdeoca, George Georgis and Angelo Chrysogelos say they want to bring a different perspective to the board.

Georgis criticized incumbents for rubber-stamping proposals and not acting independently. Veenstra counters that the unity trustees share made the board more productive. Incumbents also defended ongoing efforts to establish a Town Center on the east end of town, near Lake Street and Addison Road. Chrysogelos believes the project is costing too much money, but fails to offer any alternative to how the village should entice more development in that part of town.

Addison worked with other taxing bodies to benefit all residents. The village contributed sales tax dollars to the construction of a new library. So while it's refreshing to see so many people take an interest running for village board, we endorse Layne, Theodore and Veenstra. They have a clear vision for Addison and are working together to reach that goal.

Village Clerk Lucille A. Zucchero also gets our support. While Zucchero has many years of experience and expertise, challenger Cherie Ochoa didn't even respond to attempts to contact her.
