Martin Luther King event

Hoffman Estates' seventh annual Martin Luther King Jr. breakfast celebration has been scheduled for Monday, Jan. 19, on what would have been the slain civil rights leader's 80th birthday. The breakfast takes place at 8 a.m. in the newly remodeled village hall, 1900 Hassell Road, and organizers hope for a particularly moving event given King's milestone birthday and the election of Barack Obama, along with 2009 being the village's 50th anniversary. The program is free, but seating is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis by calling (847) 781-2606.

Road may get overhaul

Cook County is looking at a possible overhaul of the stretch of Arlington Heights Road that runs through Buffalo Grove. Last winter, the county spent much of its time patching potholes on the road between Dundee and Lake-Cook roads. Because the potholes were so prevalent, the county is looking to get bids to replace the pavement on that street at the end of 2009.

Free car wash program begins

Schaumburg Township Highway Commissioner Robert Fecarotta has announced the return of the Clear Vision program. This free light car wash is available for all Schaumburg Township residents. The program will be held at the Township Road and Bridge garage at 1 Illinois Blvd., Hoffman Estates, from 9 a.m. to noon every Saturday from Jan. 10 to Feb. 28. There is no charge for the car wash, but a donation of nonperishable boxed or canned goods is requested.
