Schaumburg man struck by train in Roselle

A Metra train struck and killed a 58-year-old Schaumburg man Friday afternoon shortly after departing westbound from the Roselle train station.

The collision occurred at 3:30 p.m. at Roselle Road just south of Irving Park Road, police said. Roselle police are withholding the victim's name until the man's family can be contacted.

Traffic along Roselle Road was diverted along Irving Park Road and adjacent side streets for much of the afternoon rush hour.

Meanwhile, Metra commuters faced travel delays of anywhere from 30 to 90 minutes, Metra spokeswoman Judy Pardonnet said.
