Estella and Gerald "Jerry" Hayes, both 63, are the oldest couple to ever compete on the reality show, which begins its seventh season 7 p.m. today on WMAQ Channel 5.
The Hayeses are among 11 teams of two participating in a weight-loss competition. Couples who lose the lowest weight percentage weekly are booted off. The team that remains at the end of the show wins a $250,000 grand prize. Technically, none of the teams was kicked off Tuesday night's show. However, nine teams, including the Hayeses, had to send one member home for at least 30 days.
At the end of Tuesday night's episode, it was revealed that Estella would be the one who would attempt to lose weight at home.
Estella is a retired nurse and her husband, Gerald, is a retired engineer. Other contestants include an engaged couple, former models and a father/son team.
