Delay no problem for Jacobs
Jacobs wasn't about to let a 45-minute delay detour it from winning its first game of the Jacobs Holiday Tournament.
Connecting on its first 9 shots from the field, Jacobs was able to cruise to an 84-47 win over Tilden Tech, which was 35 minutes late in arriving at the game.
“It was frustrating because we were ready to play,” said Jacobs coach Jim Hinkle. “We made some shots early, but our defense was not good. We took control of the game in the third quarter by playing solid defense and hitting the boards.”
Jacobs actually took a 2-0 lead on 2 free throws by Nick Hofman before any time elapsed because of a technical
foul on Tilden for a jersey violation.
With Hofman scoring 13 points and the Golden Eagles making 11-of-13 shots for 85 percent, the Golden Eagles led the visitors from Chicago 26-17 after 8 minutes.
Leading 42-30 at halftime, Jacobs seized control of the game in the third quarter by scoring the first 12 points of the second half. Hofman scored 8 and Mike Peterson 4 as the Golden Eagles extended a 12-point halftime lead to 24, 54-30, with 4:22 left in the quarter.
Hofman scored all 27 of his points in the first 3 quarters. Matt Ehrhardt added 11 with 5 assists and 3 steals. Jon Kowalski scored 11 and Peterson 10 for the Eagles.
“The delay was hard to deal with,” said Hofman. “We went back to the locker room and refocused and made sure we were prepared to play. It was good to win the first game of the tournament.”
Rashuuad Daniels and Jerald Brimm led Tilden with 13 points each.
