Learn about flood prevention

Residents can learn ways to reduce impacts from future flooding during workshops offered this week in Glenview and Northbrook. Mitigation specialists from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) are hosting workshops on small projects that can be undertaken by an individual homeowner at a reasonable cost.

Homeowners, service clubs, civic organizations, church groups and others in areas affected by basement flood damage are encouraged to attend. There will be a narrated presentation followed by a question-and-answer session. The FEMA booklet, “Protecting Your Home and Property From Flood Damage” will be available with other materials in English and Spanish. The workshops are 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the police headquarters community room, 2500 East Lake Ave., Glenview, and 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, at the Northbrook Village Hall Board Room, 1225 Cedar Lane, Northbrook.
