Scouting Conant at Schaumburg

Conant (2-4, 0-2) at Schaumburg (4-2, 1-1)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Gary Scholz Stadium

Last week: Conant lost to Palatine 27-10; Schaumburg lost to Barrington 34-32

Outlook: Schaumburg wasn't planning on trying to rebound from another tough loss so soon, but that's the situation it's in as it looks to remain in the hunt for a West title and claim a playoff berth. "On both sides of the ball it was errors of mental execution that just really cost us at inopportune times," said Schaumburg coach Mark Stilling. "I don't take a whole lot of solace in losing to two great football teams (by 2 points each to Elk Grove and last week)." The Saxons will try to take it out on the Cougars with RB Shepard Little and QB Mark Iannotti while sophomore WR-S Cole Reyes will continue to see more time. Conant, which led Palatine until it was hit with a Hail Mary pass just before halftime last week, continues to get strong play from LB John Maevski. "We have to do a better job of controlling the ball and of course the turnover battle is one we have to win," said Conant coach Bill Modelski. "We really got pushed around in the second half (last week). We wore down and that's kind of been our theme." Schaumburg has won three straight in a series Conant leads 23-16.
