Winfield teen on life-support after accident

A 17-year-old Winfield boy was placed on life support after a Saturday night auto accident in West Chicago, according to authorities.

The DuPage County sheriff's office is withholding the name of the teen who was taken to Central DuPage Hospital after crashing a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta into a 1997 Ford F-150 at 9:01 p.m. Saturday.

The 17-year-old apparently lost control of the vehicle while driving east on Garys Mill Road, past Indian Knoll Road, and struck the rear end of the Ford as it was pulling out of a residential driveway, according to authorities.

Both directions of Garys Mill Road were closed from Roosevelt Road to Wynwood Road for about four hours while sheriff's investigators reconstructed the crash.

The incident remains under investigation, and no citations had been given as of Sunday morning.
