Scouting Barrington at Elk Grove

Barrington (1-0) at Elk Grove (1-0)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at Robert Haskell Stadium

Last week: Barrington d. Libertyville 41-28; Elk Grove d. Niles North 41-0

Outlook: Elk Grove's speed vs. Barrington's size. "It's a little bit of a contrast of styles with the strengths of both teams," said Barrington coach Joe Sanchez. "I don't think it's any mystery to what the strength of our team is. The guys up front did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage." Barrington had Chase Murdock run 37 times for 171 yards behind Pat Bolger, Dan Voltz and Co., and QB Matt LeMire had a solid debut with 199 yards passing and 2 TDs. "We won't see another team the rest of the year that's bigger than they are," said Elk Grove coach Brian Doll. "We're bigger this year ... but we're harping on we have to play faster than them." Elk Grove counters with its aggressive defense that includes two-way standouts QB-S Nick Meyer, LB-WR Joey Bishoff and Eddie Stahl. "I'd rather see (Meyer) on the defensive side than the offensive side," Sanchez said with a laugh of the senior who had 319 total yards and 5 TDs last week. Barrington has won four straight and seven of eight in a series it leads 12-5 while Elk Grove tries to go 2-0 for the first time since it was 11-1 in 2004.
