Your news: Des Plaines group performs at Flyers game

Artistry in Motion, the in house dance company of the Des Plaines Park District, brought their talent and technique out onto the ball field at the Schaumburg Flyers Sunday, Aug. 1, home game against the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks.

Fresh from their award winning performance at DanceAmerica Nationals Competition and The Dance Olympus Summer Championships the company performed four routines as part of the preshow entertainment.

The crackerjack lineup included "Zero to Hero," from Hercules, choreographed by Laura Chiuve, artistic director; "Fire," choreographed by Anne Gollenberg; "Knock on Wood," choreographed by Chiuve; and "On the Radio," choreographed by Cecilia Ferguson-Bell.

"Performing is at the heart of why the Artistry works so hard during the year," said Chiuve. "The dancers develop self-confidence and poise being in front of an audience," Chiuve said. "They also learn the importance of being good ambassadors for the park district," she continued.

The Des Plaines Park District will hold a Dance Open House from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11. Current dance students and those curious about exploring a new style of dance can sample free classes taught by the professional staff.

Artistry in Motion will next perform at Fall Fest Des Plaines at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, on the main stage. In December, the dancers can be seen at Lake Wonderland Winter Festival and at Spectacular, their winter dance concert, the 17th and 18th at Prairie Lakes Theatre.
