District 207 seeks volunteers for Community Advisory Council

Maine Township High School District 207 is looking for community members to serve on a new Superintendent's Community Advisory Council.

Beginning this autumn, the Community Advisory Council, to be composed of 20 to 30 members, will meet about four times a year with Superintendent Ken Wallace. The objective is to facilitate improved communication between the district and its many stakeholders throughout all the District 207 communities.

The district is looking for people interested in serving in this volunteer advisory capacity to Wallace and the board of education. The district's hope is that Community Advisory Council members will serve as "key communicators" - both increasing the community's understanding of the district and also providing the board and administration with feedback from community members.

The Superintendent's Community Advisory Council will discuss a variety of school-related topics, such as district governance, finances and academic programming. In addition, the group will discuss other timely issues as they arise and are brought to the table by either the school district or council members.

Board of Education members will appoint roughly half of the Community Advisory Council membership. District administrators will select the other half from among residents willing to complete an application and - if selected as a finalist - interview with a panel that will include Wallace and assistant superintendents.

District 207 plans to finalize council membership by mid-September and to conduct its first meeting in October.

Interested community members will find an application form, to be submitted by Aug. 17, at maine207.org/.
