Spring Grove woman killed, three injured in Lake Co. head-on crash

A Spring Grove woman was killed and three people were injured in an early-morning, head-on crash on Grass Lake Road, Lake County Sheriff authorities said.

Danielle Trevithick, 22, died when her 2000 Mitsubishi was hit by a 2003 GMC Envoy in the area of 27500 West Grass Lake Road in Antioch Township at 1:25 a.m. Thursday. The Envoy, driven by Michael Albers Jr., 23, of Zion, was eastbound when it crossed the center line and hit the Mitsubishi, according to Sgt. Christopher Thompson. Investigators suspect speed and alcohol were factors in the accident.

Trevithick, a 2006 graduate of Grant Community High School, died from multiple injuries suffered in the crash, Thompson said Thursday.

Trevithick worked full time as a beautician in Antioch while taking classes at the College of Lake County to become a dental hygienist, her family said.

"She was just an overall great person who would do anything for anyone," said her father, Anthony Trevithick. "She was smiling all the time and living life."

Anthony Trevithick said his daughter was out with friends and called to say she would be home later than planned.

"She should have been home and we didn't hear from her. My wife texted her and she didn't respond," Anthony Trevithick said. "I then woke up and heard the flights for life over the house and turned on my police scanner."

Anthony Trevithick said he heard a report of an accident, with multiple helicopters called to the scene.

"I got nervous and got in the car and drove down there and they identified it was my daughter," he said.

Albers, who was ejected from the vehicle upon impact, was flown to St. Anthony's Hospital in Rockford and is in critical condition. The two passengers is his vehicle were identified as 25-year-old Stephen Chevalier of Zion and 45-year-old Denise Anderson of Gurnee. They were both critically injured and taken by Flight for Life to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.

No citations have been issued, but once the investigation is complete, the case will be reviewed by the Lake County State's Attorney's Office for possible charges, officials said.

Autopsy results for Trevithick will be available Friday morning, Lake County Coroner Dr. Richard Keller said.

Grass Lake Road was shut down for about two hours while the accident was cleaned up.

Danielle Trevithick is survived by her mother, Shari, her father, Anthony and her 20-year-old sister, Savannah.

"She loved her family dearly and I cannot begin to understand how her parents will get through this loss, or how her baby sister will deal with losing a best friend," Kelly Kennelly, Danielle Trevithick's aunt and godmother, said in an e-mail. "No one should have to outlive a child, it goes against nature."
