Jacobs rolls over Dundee-Crown
The Jacobs softball team spotted Dundee-Crown a 2-0 lead after the top of the first inning Wednesday at the Class 4A Huntley regional semifinals.
The rest was all Golden Eagles.
Jacobs pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of 14 Dundee-Crown errors to cruise past the Chargers 25-2 and advance to Saturday's 11 a.m. championship game against host Huntley.
Jacobs (20-11-1) will be seeking its first regional title since 2005 and third in program history. Huntley (22-12) has won regional titles the last two years. Huntley beat Jacobs twice this season, 15-10 and 4-3, but also lost to the Eagles 19-3.
Huntley could be without the area's leading hitter Saturday, though, as Illinois-bound catcher Jenna Mychko has been out for the past week after suffering a concussion. Mychko said Wednesday that she's scheduled to see her doctor today for a progress report.
In Wednesday's win, Jenna Teson (2 hits, 3 RBI), Sara Jacobson (4 hits, 2 doubles, 5 RBI), Kara Arceneaux (2B, RBI), Ashley Morales (2 RBI) and Kelsey Peterson (4 hits, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) led the Jacobs offense. Marissa Lombardo pitched four innings and allowed 4 hits to earn the win.
Brittany Schultz had 2 RBI for the Chargers (1-28) and Tiffany Rawlinson had a double. Amanda Eissler was the losing pitcher.
