Crystal Lake swim instructor charged with abusing students

A 20-year-old Crystal Lake swim instructor is being held in McHenry County jail on charges he inappropriately touched two young students.

Rock Jamison Burman, of the 3000 block of Mary Lane in McHenry, was arrested Monday at the Health Bridge Fitness Center in Crystal Lake and charged with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, police said.

Crystal Lake Deputy Police Chief Gene Lowery said the arrest followed an investigation which revealed that Burman had "inappropriate contact" with two male juveniles participating in the health club's swim program.

The incidents occurred March 2 and March 10, police said. Both boys were under the age of 13, Lowery said.

Burman was transferred Monday to the county jail with a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court May 10 on the Class 2 felony charges, which are punishable by a maximum three to seven years in prison.
