Lake in the Hills man accused of underage sex

A 22-year-old Lake in the Hills man faces an aggravated criminal sexual abuse charge alleging he had sexual relations with a teenage girl, authorities said.

Fox River Grove police say Michael L. Schultz, of the 1100 block of Cherry Street, had sexual contact with a 15-year-old girl on two occasions. The sex was consensual, according to police, but because of the girl's age she could not give legal consent.

Police said they learned of the accusations from the girl's family in August 2009, when Schultz was 21. Investigators were able to obtain DNA evidence, and once it was matched to Schultz, the McHenry County State's Attorney's office approved charges, Fox River Grove Police Chief Ronald Lukasik said.

Schultz turned himself in to police Wednesday morning, Lukasik said, a day after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

Schultz was released after posting $4,000 bond. His next court date is June 9, police said. If convicted, Schultz faces three to seven years in prison or up to four years' probation.

Reached at his Lake in the Hills home Wednesday, Schultz declined to comment on the allegations.
