Benefit to support Pingree eventsHelp support Pingree Grove community events on Wednesday, May 26 at On the Border Mexican Grill Cantina, 1512 S. Randall Road in Algonquin. Order lunch or dinner and 10 percent of your food and nonalcoholic beverage purchases will be donated to the Pingree Grove Events Council in their efforts to continue year-round activities for their community. A flier will be handed out on those days from 4 to 8 p.m. If you fill out the bottom portion of the flier, you will have a chance to win a $100 Visa gift card. Just present it to you server. This program will look at one of the lasting legacies of the "Plan of Chicago" - the protected network of parks, forest preserves, river and stream corridors, and greenways that knit the Chicago region together. How can Elgin build and improve upon the legacy of the green infrastructure network? Can the community embrace "Green Urbanism?" Admission is $6 per person or $5 for members. The public is invited. The spiritual address will be given by the Rev. Steven Mindrup of the First United Methodist Church of West Dundee. The Tri-City Evergreen Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2298 and Auxiliary will participate in this half-hour service honoring over 944 veterans buried at River Valley Memorial Gardens. The soloist will be Kathy Clifford-Grazinskas. The Dundee-Crown High School trumpeters will participate with the national anthem and taps.Memorial parades in Cary and FRGbull; Fox River Grove Memorial Day Parade steps off at 8:30 a.m. Monday, May 31 at Algonquin Road School, 975 Algonquin Road, Fox River Grove. It will continue down Algonquin Road to South River Road. The parade, hosted by the American Legion Frank H. Nagel Jr. Post 119, ends at Lions Park with a ceremony and 21-gun salute to honor fallen soldiers.
