Jacobs' Jacobson chooses IPFW
Seeing an organized coach and a program with a firm routine was enough for Sara Jacobson.
Jacobson, Jacobs' senior center fielder, signed a national letter of intent earlier this week to accept a softball scholarship from Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, an NCAA Division I school that plays in the Summit League along with the likes of Western Illinois, South Dakota State and Missouri-Kansas City.
"I really liked the coach's attitude," said Jacobson of Mastadons' first-year coach Amy Tudor. "She wants to get everybody in there that wants to play and wants to win.
"Everything is set there. Everything is planned and nothing is forgotten. I was extremely impressed with that."
Jacobson, who plans to study elementary education with an emphasis in special education so she can teach and coach someday, is hitting .561 with 12 RBI for the Golden Eagles this season. She also has 7 triples, 2 doubles, an .842 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. She's struck out just twice in 57 at-bats, has 5 stolen bases and has at least one hit in each of Jacobs' 16 games this season.
Jacobson, a two-time all-conference player who plays for the Lake County Liberty summer travel team, chose IPFW over Augustana and Ripon.
IPFW is 24-16 this season and has tied the school record for wins in a season.
