Crystal Lake sex offender back in prison after visit to Jacobs High
A convicted sex offender is back in prison after pleading guilty to being on school property.
Christopher Wujek, 25, of the 300 block of North Virginia Road in Crystal Lake entered a plea agreement Thursday under which he will serve 15 months in prison.
Wujek tried to enter Jacobs High School Jan. 5, 2009, to meet with an employee of the Algonquin school. As a sex offender with two convictions in his past - one as a juvenile and another as an adult - and having spent three years in prison, he was charged with being a sex offender on school property.
Wujek's attorney initially argued for a lenient sentence that would have included probation and a short stint in the county jail.
But McHenry County Judge Sharon Prather would not accept that proposal, leading to the 15-month plea deal entered Thursday, Wujek's lawyer said.
"We felt that the entry on the property was innocent and minor," said Philip Prossnitz, Wujek's attorney. "We would have preferred to see a more modest sentence."
Assistant State's Attorney Ryan Blackne argued the sentence was appropriate.
"We felt based on the location where this occurred that a sentence of probation was not appropriate," he said.
Wujek will get day-for-day credit, meaning he will serve half of his 15-month sentence, Prossnitz said.
