Harris, Kirchoff lift Barrington down the stretch

Barrington's Emily Harris and Abby Kirchoff were a tough 1-2 punch for the Fillies in the fourth quarter in their 52-44 Mid-Suburban West girls basketball win at Schaumburg on Tuesday night.

Harris tossed in 10 points and Kirchoff 7 for the Fillies (21-11, 7-2).

"Harris had a good game offensively and really hit the boards," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro of Harris' 18 points and 11 rebounds. "Abby turned up her game in the fourth quarter also. We also had some good bench play tonight."

Harris played most of the fourth quarter with four fouls, and stayed clear of the fifth.

"I had to watch myself," said Harris. "On offense I had to make sure I didn't get the fifth foul on an over-the-back. On offense I got into a good rhythm in the fourth quarter. The guards played well and were able to get the ball inside to me and Abby."

Schaumburg (4-21, 2-7) played a strong game and led 40-36 with 4:43 left in the contest on a basket from Rachel Kahan (8 points, 7 rebounds).

Harris hit for a basket underneath and Kirchoff (16 points, 6 rebounds) converted a 3-point play with 4:07 left to give the Fillies a 41-40 lead.

Harris hit for another basket and a 43-40 lead.

Jennifer Pomagier, who finished with 10 points and 6 rebounds, scored with 2:36 left and the Saxons trailed 43-42.

Sam Maasarani hit a trey and Kirchoff followed with 2 free throws for a 48-42 wit :52 left. Harris and Kirchoff with each hit 2 more free throws in the last 25 seconds. Taylor Kosla, who scored 13 of her 16 points in the first quarter, led the Lady Saxons.

"I'm proud of the team's effort," said Schaumburg coach Ashley Berggren. "This is the best-disciplined game we played all year. We came out fighting and kept our composure. Some of our late possesions didn't come through for us."

Barrington cashed in at the free throw line, hitting on 17 of 21 free throws. Schaumburg was 8-for-12.

"We woke up at the right time," said Barreiro, "but, we need to play four consistent quarters. We can't look past anyone right now."
