Cary Lions Club donates to Sage House for Autism

The Cary Lions Club held its first Bags Tournament fundraiser for the purpose of donating all profits to the Sage House for Autism in Cary.

The check for $238 was presented to Siobhan Cottone, director of development with Pioneer Center for Human Services at a recent meeting. Cottone shared information about Sage House and how the donation would help the residents.

Autism Services is one of seven areas of Pioneer Center for Human Services. Sage House for Autism is a 24-hour therapeutic group home for children ages 6-22 who are diagnosed with severe autism. The facility embraces an eclectic range of therapies and instruction on an individual basis. As every person is unique, they build on each client's strengths and focus on goals for that individual. They use real learning experiences to teach self-help skills, communication skills and choice making with a high value on providing clients with opportunities for social integration and recreation that are typical for individuals their age.

Cottone expressed appreciation for the donation which will be especially useful due to the reduction of traditional financial support from governmental sources.

The Cary Lions Club is already looking forward to Bags Tournament 2012.
