Christian Liberty’s perfect run ends

Christian Liberty’s dream boys soccer season came to a heartbreaking ending Tuesday night in the Harvard Class 1A sectional semifinals.

The Chargers lost for the first time in 21 games by a 2-1 score to Rockford Keith Country Day. Mike Hennek scored their only goal on an assist from David Colbert.

Christian Liberty (20-1-0) had beaten Keith 3-2 for the Northeastern Athletic Conference title two weeks ago.

Schaumburg 5, Wheaton North 0: Nick Savino had a pair of goals as Schaumburg (13-4-1), the top seed in the Bartlett 3A sectional, rebounded from a shootout loss in the Mid-Suburban League Cup to win its regional semifinal.

Nick Abel converted a penalty kick, Alan Santana and Joey Faleni each had a goal and an assist and Ben Beard had 1 save in the shutout for the Saxons. They will host the regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday against today’s Addison Trail-Glenbard West winner.

Maine West 6, Schurz 0: Xavier Gomez had a hat trick and Spencer Walton had a goal and 2 assists as Maine West (15-4-1) rolled in its New Trier 3A regional semifinal.

Alex Herrera and Luis Zarete also scored goals for the Warriors, the No. 3 seed in the Evanston sectional. They’ll play for the regional title at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 10 New Trier, a 2-0 winner over No. 6 Glenbrook North.

Leyden 4, St. Patrick 0: Juan Recendez scored 2 goals and Marco Granda made 2 saves for the shutout for Leyden in its 3A regional semifinal.

The Eagles, the No. 2 seed in the Evanston sectional, host a regional final at 3 p.m. Saturday against No. 11 Lane Tech, a 2-0 winner over Loyola.

Buffalo Grove 1, Carmel 0: The sixth-seeded Bison won the Hoffman Estates 3A regional semifinal and advanced to Saturday’s 5 p.m. championship against No. 3 Highland Park, a 4-0 winner over Rolling Meadows.

St. Charles North 4, Elk Grove 1: The Grenadiers’ season ended at home in their 3A regional semifinal. The No. 2 North Stars play for the regional title at 3 p.m. Saturday at Elk Grove.
