Mundelein High counselor receives award

Submitted by Ron Girard/Mundelein High School

Mundelein High School Guidance Counselor Aracely Lawrence was the recipient of the first Village of Mundelein Diversity Award, which was presented by the mayor and village board in a recent ceremony. She was nominated for the award by her colleague, Jaime Phillips.

The village of Mundelein instituted the award earlier this year, looking for organizations, students, faculty or staff members who meet a set criteria.

The award certificate highlights that criteria: “The Mayor and Village board of trustees, on behalf of the Human Relations Commission and Mundelein residents, presents the 2011 Diversity Award to Aracely Lawrence for demonstrating leadership and embodying excellence in creating programs to celebrate diversity, promote tolerance and build cultural understanding.”

Lawrence was chosen, in part, for being instrumental in forming the Temas Latinos organization at MHS, which focuses on learning about Hispanic culture.
