Boys volleyball / Lake County roundup
Eduard Ciobanu and Dillon Schaefer pounded 11 and 10 kills, respectively, as Warren’s boys volleyball team handed Stevenson its first North Suburban Conference loss with a 25-18, 25-22 win in the teams’ first-place showdown.
Warren (19-8, 8-1) also received a strong all-around effort from Tyler Smith (26 assists, 2 kills, 3 digs, block). Ciobanu had 17 digs, as well, while Sean O’Connor contributed 4 kills. King Gorospe and Chris Sibayan had 8 and 7 digs, respectively, for the Blue Devils.
Stevenson (27-5, 6-1) was led by Danny Gescheidle’s 7 kills and 10 digs and Zachary Kravits’ 4 kills and 14 assists on 52-of-52 setting.
Stefan Boes had 11 digs for the Patriots. Warren helped limit Nik Antonijevic to 2 kills.
Carmel d. Marian Catholic: Michael Fitzgibbons had 11 kills and 4 solo blocks, as the Corsairs won the East Suburban Catholic Conference match 25-13, 25-19.
Frankie Cohen added 7 kills and 2 aces for Carmel (17-14, 5-2), and Will Collazo also had 4 solo blocks. Alex Dunlap lofted 30 assists. Collin Long had 8 digs in the win.
“Excellent final home match for the Corsairs,” coach Kevin Nylen said. “Good energy and execution. Dunlap had a great match setting an distributing the sets. ‘Fitz,’ Collazo and Cohen were great hitting and blocking.”
