"Big the Musical" to open at Naperville Central High School
Naperville Central High School will take 70 cast members to the stage to perform, "big” April 29th and April 30th at 7:30pm and May 1st at 2:30pm at the Auditorium at Naperville Central High School.
Departing from the classics from the last 3 years, Naperville Central High School Director Curt Parry states that “big” brings a musical contrast with different, more contemporary music, fusing multiple keyboards and electronic sounds in the orchestra.
“big, the musical,” is the story of a typical twelve-year old New Jersey boy who, one day, wishes to be “big”, and – amazingly - has his wish granted! He wakes up a full-grown man and runs away to Manhattan where he stumbles his way into a job as “idea” man at the MacMillan Toy Company, bringing his childish wonder to the cynical adult world. After the original New York production enjoyed only a modest Broadway run, a refashioned big again opened on the road in 1997, gaining critical accolades in its national tour.
The lead role of Josh Baskin is played by senior Jackson Pierce and he has captured the skill of playing the giant, 300 pound – 6 foot over-sized keyboard that will be one of the highlights of the show. Most people will remember the Tom Hank's movie of the same where “Josh” and his boss dance on the giant piano keyboard.
“Playing this role has been an absolute pleasure for me because it allows me to reflect on how I was when I was younger, says Pierce. “I could grasp all of the great feelings that some people leave behind when we enter our later adolescence. Being able to recall those years and bring them back to life was and still is an amazing experience...plus the red high-top converse weren't too bad either.”
And always remember to be careful what you wish for – because your wish just might come true.
