Round Lake area hero named
Round Lake Area Exchange Club’s Hometown Hero Committee has announced Army Specialist Douglas Elliott will receive the April honor, officials said in a news release.
Elliott was nominated for the recognition by his aunt, Roxanne Kainz of Round Lake Beach. Elliott is a 2007 graduate from Round Lake High School.
In the Army for more than two years, Elliott is in Afghanistan working as an engineering specialist.
“His family is very proud of him and are honored that Douglas is our April Hometown Hero,” said Sherry Ridge, the Hometown Hero project chair.
Committee members will fill Elliott’s care packages with summer sausage, crackers, Tootsie Rolls and other candy, along with a personalized “Hanging with the Heroes” T-shirt and letters from Round Lake Area Unit District 116 students.
Exchange Club members will present a plaque on behalf of the April Hometown Hero at 7:30 a.m. April 27 during a meeting at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach. Many family members are expected for the presentation.
All military personnel serving overseas or in the United States from any of the Round Lake areas, Hainesville, Fox Lake or Ingleside qualify for the program. Nominate someone at www.rlaexchange.org/hero.
