MHS ’06 grad drafted by professional soccer team

Mundelein High School graduate Charlie Campbell has been drafted by FC Dallas, a professional soccer team.

Campbell recently played in the Men’s Soccer Division I Championship game for the University of Louisville, where he is working on his master’s degree and is playing his fourth year of collegiate soccer. Louisville lost to Michigan in that game to be the runner-up in the tournament.

Campbell played for Virginia Tech for three years where he earned his bachelor’s degree. At Virginia Tech, Campbell started in all 19 games in 2009 and finished the season tied for the team lead with three goals and four assists for 10 points.

He scored the game-winning goal against Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He also was named the Middleton Sports & Fitness Invitational MVP after helping the Hokies win the tournament and finished the 2009 season with two game-winning goals.

Campbell was named to All-ACC Academic team for three straight seasons and saw action in just four games in 2008 and earned a medical redshirt. He started in 16 games during the 2007 season, finishing the season with four goals and five assists.

In high school, Campbell played varsity soccer his freshman year and was named first team all-state by the Daily Herald.

He then played on the Sockers FC Top Talent team his remaining three years. He was captain of the Illinois ODP ‘88 team where he led the Sockers FC to the CASL Elite Group A Championship and also helped the Sockers FC to the Region 2 Championship and the Italy Cup Championship. He helped guide the team to the semifinals of the Dallas Cup.
