Scovic, Palatine power past Libertyville

Junior second baseman Katie Scovic went 4-for-4 and belted a walk-off triple in the bottom the sixth inning as No. 5 Palatine topped No. 12 Libertyville 11-1 in six innings.

Scovic's triple, which went over the first base bag and down the right field line, brought home freshman first baseman Lauren Logan to put Palatine (22-13) into the championship game of the Class 4A Libertyville regional on Friday at 4:30 p.m. against No. 4 Warren (27-7).

Senior Chrissy Roto (14-10) threw a 3-hitter with 6 strikeouts and 1 walk to earn the win.

Other top hitters for the Pirates were junior Joanne Jablonski (2-for-4, 3 RBI), junior Katie Mnichowicz (2-for-3, walk) and senior Heather Zimmerman (2-for-3). Teammate Meaghan Deegan added a doubled.

Coach Jeff Manz' Pirates broke the game open with a 6-run fourth inning, that included a bases-loaded double by Jablonski to score Mnichowicz, Sam Salomone and courtesy runner Megan Hedstrom.

Stevenson 8, Buffalo Grove 2: Stevenson's Allie Micucci earned the win over Buffalo Grove's Maria Dax in the Class 4A Highland Park regional semifinal

Stevenson's Amanda Jaegers (2-for-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Bekah Ozga (2-for-4, 1 run, 2 RBI) and Heather Cohen (2-for-3, 1 run, RBI) were the only multiple hitters in the game.

No. 10 seed Buffalo Grove scored in the first after leadoff batter KC Dunne walked and Andrea DiPrima belted a home run over the center-field fence.

No. 7 Stevenson shut out the Bison (18-18) the rest of the way, intentionally walking DiPrima twice. Dax and shortstop Dunne made standout defensive plays for the Bison.

Lake Zurich 11, Rolling Meadows 1: Lake Zurich's Megan Mattera got the win in the Class 4A Zion-Benton regional semifinal, allowing only 1 hit with 7 strikeouts in 5 innings.

Paige Goldberg (2-for- 3) and Mattera (3-for-3, 2 doubles, 3 RBI) paced the offense for No. 6 Lake Zurich offense.

Sophomore Natalie Cannizzo had the only hit for No. 11 Meadows (19-16) while junior Kayla Mueller (8-3) took the loss.

Leyden 17, Maine East 0: No. 2 Leyden improved to 29-6 by winning the Class 4A Evanston regional semifinal over No. 14 Maine East.

The Eagles advance to Saturday's 11 a.m. championship to face No. 10 Evanston, coached by former Maine West standout pitcher Kristen Proffitt.

Postponed: The Fremd, Elk Grove and Streamwood Class 4A regional semifinals were postponed to today.

At Elk Grove, No. 8 Conant (21-11) and No. 9 Schaumburg (23-10) will meet at 4:30 p.m. The winner meets the host and top-seeded Grens (32-4) for the title Saturday at 11 a.m.

At Fremd, No. 8 Deerfield meets No. 9 Prospect (13-18) at 4:30 p.m. The winner faces host and top-seeded Fremd (28-4) for the title on Saturday at 11 a.m.

At Streamwood, No. 3 Hoffman Estates (4-25) meets No. 2 Larkin at 4:30 p.m.
