Crystal Lake woman arrested in Cary bank robbery
A 35-year-old Crystal Lake woman has been charged in last month's robbery of a Chase Bank in Cary.
Silk P. Lumpkins, of the 600 block of Blackthorn Drive, appeared in federal court Thursday in Rockford, the day after she was reported acting suspiciously outside of a Chase Bank in Fox River Grove.
In the federal complaint, prosecutors said Lumpkin walked into the Chase Bank at 300 Northwest Highway in Cary at about 2:20 p.m. May 26 and wrote a note at the self-service desk demanding the teller hand over all of the money in the teller's drawer. The complaint states the teller handed Lumpkins $5,876, which she placed in a Chase deposit bag that she had brought with her. She left the area on foot.
During the robbery, witnesses said, Lumpkins wore thick white makeup, what appeared to be a blonde wig and a dark baseball cap.
Lumpkins was arrested Wednesday after a person wearing a similar disguise was seen outside of a Chase Bank at 712 Northwest Hwy. in Fox River Grove. Lumpkins was found trying to hide in a gold Chevrolet van in the parking lot of a nearby apartment complex on the 600 block of School Street in Fox River Grove, police said. After an investigation, the FBI on Thursday filed bank robbery charges against Lumpkins.
If convicted, Lumpkins faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and 3 years supervised release following imprisonment, and full restitution.
Lumpkins' next court date is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 8.
