Millsaps resigns at Rolling Meadows

Doug Millsaps, who turned a downtrodden Rolling Meadows football program into one of the best in the Mid-Suburban League, resigned from his varsity head coaching position Tuesday afternoon to focus on personal matters.

Millsaps was 77-64 in 14 seasons at Meadows and made nine playoff appearances. The 2004 team reached the Class 7A state semifinals and the 2006 team made the 7A quarterfinals.

The Mustangs just had a streak of seven successive playoff trips come to an end as they finished 4-5 this year. His teams in 2009, 2007, 200 and 1999 won Mid-Suburban East crowns.

Millsaps has been charged with two DUIs since 2004 and the latest was in 2009. A release from District 214 said he will remain at Meadows as a physical education teacher.

A message left Wednesday night for Millsaps was not returned.

"We thank Doug for his service to our football program," said Meadows principal Dr. Charles Johns in the district release. "Under Doug's leadership our football program experienced a rich history of success."

The school had made only two playoff appearances and had never won an MSL division title prior to Millsaps' arrival in 1997.

Before coming to Meadows, Millsaps spent three years as a head coach at Rockford Jefferson, his alma mater, and was a head coach at Lanark Eastland from 1984-88. He also was an assistant coach at Benedictine University.

The District 214 release said the Meadows administration will conduct a comprehensive search for a new coach in late December.
