Lake clinched by Mundelein
Mundelein clinched the North Suburban Conference Lake Division baseball title with a 6-3 victory over Stevenson on Monday.
The Mustangs (26-4, 10-1 Lake) came out of the gate strong, scoring all 6 of their runs over the first three innings. Chris Maranto blasted a home run for the Mustangs, who also got 2 hits, including a double, from Bryan Wiener and a triple from Ryan Borucki.
Meanwhile, pitcher Jared Mandel got the win. He rolled up 8 strikeouts in 6 innings.
Wauconda 12, Antioch 1: Brandon Gibis was busy. He went 4-for-4 on the day and got extra bases with each hit, tallying a whopping 3 triples and a double. As if that weren’t enough, Gibis also got the win on the mound for the Bulldogs. He pitched five innings and finished with 5 strikeouts. Kyle Bock and Jack Botheroyd added 2 hits apiece for Wauconda, which moves to 19-19 on the season. For Antioch (17-11), Joe Gregory had a home run while Emery Paramski finished with 2 hits.
Grant 12, Round Lake 1: Winning pitcher Jared Helmich kept Round Lake in check, allowing just 1 run and striking out 7 batters over six innings. He upped his record on the mound to 7-1 as Grant improved to 17-11 overall. Jake Ring and Jordan Villarreal each had a team-leading 3 hits for the Bulldogs. Tyler Gorski and Helmich each added a double and 2 RBI. Meanwhile, Ring also came up with 2 stolen bases to up his total to 23 on the season. For Round Lake, Donnie Myers went 2-for-3 with a double.
Warren 6, Libertyville 2: Warren used a 5-run fourth inning to take control. Winning pitcher Adam Reuss rolled up 6 strikeouts in six innings and also helped his cause with 2 hits and an RBI. Anthony Garza drove in 2 runs for Warren (16-12) with a homer. For Libertyville, Dar Townsend hit a double.
Lake Zurich 7, Lake Forest 4: Jake Guilianelli’s one-out hit-and-run sparked the Bears to a 3-run fifth inning that yielded a 3-1 lead. Anthony Drago hit a home run in the sixth to stretch the Lake Zurich lead to 4-1, but then Lake Forest tied the game with 3 runs in the top of the seventh inning. The Bears (19-10) weren’t done with the home runs though as Sean Eder hit a 3-run homer in the bottom of the seventh to end the game. Pitcher Wyatt Spector got the win on the mound. He rolled up 7 strikeouts in seven innings to improve his record to 6-2.
Grayslake North 10, Woodstock North 0: Winning pitcher Adam Gomski helped the Knights improve to 15-15 on the season.
Carmel 10, St. Patrick 2: John Salvi hit a triple and Ian Kristan hit a double as Carmel earned another East Suburban Catholic Conference win.
Crystal Lake South 12, Grayslake Central 2: The Rams managed just 2 hits. Both of Grayslake Central’s runs came in the first inning.
