Small Schaumburg High fire may have been intentionally set
A small fire in a wood shop at Schaumburg High School Friday may have been intentionally set, authorities said.
Schaumburg police were questioning a juvenile Friday night, though it’s unclear if any charges would be filed.
The fire started in a storage area but did not spread, as it was quickly put out by a member of the school’s maintenance staff, Schaumburg High School District 211 officials said.
Schaumburg Fire Department crews arrived about 12:50 p.m., and though the fire had already been put out, they used four smoke ejectors to get smoke out of wood shop and an adjoining hallway, according to Battalion Chief Rick Anderson.
The smoke caused $2,000 in damage.
Students and staff were evacuated from the entire school but returned to class at 1:25 p.m.
The fire and police departments were investigating.
