5 Mundelein High School staffers win grants

Five members of the Mundelein High School staff each have received $500 grants from the Mundelein High School Community Education Alumni Foundation.

The grants were presented by foundation board member Steve Figved at an April 19 ceremony.

The foundation presents these grants so that faculty and staff at Mundelein High can enhance learning opportunities for their students.

The following staff members received grants:

Ÿ Debra Fitzsimmons of the art department, to purchase table easels.

Ÿ Jonathan Meier of theater department, to purchase video cameras for use in theater courses.

Ÿ Christine O'Toole of the science department, to purchase additional EKG machines for use in anatomy courses.

Ÿ Mary Plucinski of the social studies department, to create an essentials library for social studies courses.

Ÿ Sheila Ryndak, a librarian, to expand the Choose to Read program.

The ceremony marked the second presentation of grants this school year.

Staffers can apply for the extra funding.

The foundation was formed as alumni came together to plan and celebrate the 50th anniversary of Mundelein High School.

The group will hold a Drive ‘n' Dine fundraiser on Sunday, May 6, at the school. All money earned through the sale of chicken-and-rib lunches will help the group continue providing grants.
